Drug Drop Off Program Offered for Saint John Area Residents

(SAINT JOHN) May 9, 2014 - Public Service Announcement - Saturday, May 10, is National Prescription Drug Drop Off Day and St. Joseph's Community Health Centre is partnering with the Saint John City Police and local Shoppers Drug Marts to offer area residents a safe, simple and anonymous means of discarding their unwanted and unused medications.

The Drug Drop Off will be held on Saturday, May 10from 10 am until 2 pm at the following locations:

 

  • Shoppers West, Fairville Blvd.
  • Shoppers South, Crown St.
  • Shoppers North, Landsdowne Ave.
  • Shoppers East, Westmorland Rd.

Locations are equipped to handle prescription medications, over-the counter medications, vitamins, liquid medications, sprays, ointments, lotions and, pet medications.  Participants are asked to remove pills from original containers and place in a zip lock bag.  Ointments, liquid medications and lotions can be dropped off in their original container.

 

The Drug Drop Off Program enables the proper disposal of medications to decrease prescription drug abuse, prevent accidental poisoning and overdoses and help to decrease the environmental issues caused by improper medication disposal.
