The Building
The Stan Cassidy Centre for Rehabilitation (SCCR)
is located in Fredericton, New Brunswick. The building stands
adjoining to the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital (DECRH) and
is consequently centrally located in uptown Fredericton. Please

The SCCR is a new, state of the art facility which was opened in 2006 but is part of a much longer legacy. The two-storey building houses three interdisciplinary teams and offers on-site accommodation to patients through either the Transitional Living Suites (TLS) or the Nursing Unit. Adjacent to the SCCR is the Stan Cassidy Kiwanis House, which offers accessible accommodation, and Atlantic Canada's only fully accessible rehabilitation Therapeutic Park.
The Man and his Legacy
To those who live in Frederictonor who have visited the SCCR,
"Stan Cassidy" is recognized not only as a man's name, but as a
symbol of the dedication and innovation which resulted in the
establishment itself. Stan Cassidy was an engineer who was born and
raised in Fredericton. With a Master's Degree in Electrical
Engineering and a Doctor of Laws Degree, Mr. Cassidy was an
enterprising and lively businessman who passionately wanted to help
individuals with special needs of New Brunswick play a meaningful
role in society. He recognized that the lack of rehabilitation
facilities east of Montreal was an obstacle for many of these

In 1957, Mr. Cassidy brought a plan to the NB Minister of Health and Social Services and within less than a year and a half the doors of the Forest Hill Rehabilitation Centre were officially opened. After his death in 1993, the Forest Hill Rehabilitation Centre was renamed the Stan Cassidy Centre for Rehabilitation in honour of Mr. Cassidy and the impact he had on rehabilitation services in New Brunswick.
In 2006, a new neurological rehabilitation facility was built directly beside the Dr. Everett Chalmer's Hospital. This facility proudly took on the name "Stan Cassidy Centre for Rehabilitation," along with the mandate to deliver neurological rehabilitation across the province of New Brunswick.
