Arthrography
What is arthrography?
Arthrography is the study of a joint by injection of contrast material (X-ray "dye").
Preparing for an Arthrography
Tell your doctor beforehand if you:
- are or might be pregnant
- are allergic to any type of contrast material (dye)
- are allergic to any medication, including anaesthetics
- have asthma
- have bleeding problems or are taking blood-thinning medicines
- have a known infection in or around your joint-the dye may make your infection worse
- have diabetes or take metformin (Glucophage) for your diabetes
Risks or Complications:
- minimal exposure to radiation
- allergic reaction to contrast material (dye)
How long will an arthrography procedure take?
- The test will take approximately 20 minutes.
- If you are also scheduled for a CT scan or an MRI, the test will take approximately 1 to 2 hours.
After Your Procedure
Arrange to have someone drive you home.
