Public and staff parking rate changes for 2016

(Horizon) March 31, 2016 - Public and staff parking rates at five Horizon hospitals are being aligned to address inflation and generate additional revenue. The changes will add approximately $1.250 million annually.

Effective April 15, the hourly public parking rates at the Saint John Regional Hospital, St. Joseph's Hospital, the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital, and The Moncton Hospital will increase to $2.00, while the maximum daily rate will remain at $8.00.

Effective October 1, daily public parking rates will be $2.00 at the Upper River Valley Hospital to standardize rates with the Miramichi Regional Hospital.

Daily, weekly and monthly parking rates at the Saint John Regional Hospital, the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital, and The Moncton Hospital will not change. There will be no rate changes at the Miramichi Regional Hospital.

At a time of fiscal restraint and after years of infrequent price adjustments, these changes will align Horizon's parking rates with the rising cost of goods and services. Revenue generated from parking contributes to purchasing updated equipment, maintaining lots and balancing the budget.

Horizon staff will also experience changes to biweekly parking rates in 2016. Employees at hospitals with similar parking needs will pay the same parking rate. This represents increases at all but The Moncton Hospital. A fee to ride the shuttle in Moncton will be introduced.
