Horizon conducting its first Ambulatory Care Patient Experience Survey

(Horizon) February 23, 2017 - Horizon Health Network (Horizon) is conducting its first Ambulatory Care (outpatient) Clinic Patient Experience Survey from February 20 to March 3, 2017. Patients who receive care in a designated outpatient clinic may be asked about their experience. 

"Helping people be healthy is the shared purpose that motivates everyone who works at Horizon every day," said Horizon Health Network President and CEO, Karen McGrath. "The feedback from our patients will provide us with an opportunity to further improve their experience."

The survey focuses on patients' overall experience, from the time their appointment/procedure is scheduled to the end of their appointment. Questions focus on areas such as the appointment wait time, clarity of instructions/explanations, and staff courtesy and professionalism.

"Horizon is committed to patient and family-centred care," says Margaret Melanson, vice-president of quality and patient-centred care. "This means making sure our care and service meet the needs, desires, beliefs and cultural sensitivities held by our patients and their family members."

Patients will be asked to complete a survey following a visit to a clinic. They will have the choice of completing the survey online at or submitting it by mail in a prepaid envelope.

Survey data provides information about the patient experience that can stimulate innovation, track changes in quality, and help health care providers become more informed about their health care delivery and system.
