Public Service Announcement: New mobile crisis response unit launches in Miramichi region
(MIRAMICHI) Jan. 7, 2020 - The launch of a new Addiction and Mental Health Mobile Crisis Response Services unit in the Miramichi region will help ensure anyone in need of urgent mental health services will be able to get the help they need, when they need it.
Horizon is pleased to announce this new service, which is available daily to people of all ages who reside within the former Region 7 geographic area, which includes the city of Miramichi, the surrounding area and the Indigenous communities of Metepenagiag, Natoaganeg and Esgenoôpetitj First Nation.
Addiction and Mental Health Mobile Crisis services are available to anyone who might be experiencing an addiction and/or mental health crisis.
Existing Addiction and Mental Health Services clients or anyone in the community can access these services through self-referral. A concerned family member, friend or healthcare provider can also make the initial call on behalf of the client.
In the Miramichi area, anyone looking to access the Mobile Crisis Response unit can phone 506-623-3333 from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The Mobile Crisis Team increases access to services and provide a range of crisis intervention services in a timely and effective manner in the person's own environment or the environment of their choice.
The team is staffed by specially-trained mental health social workers and nurses who provide a timely and well coordinated response to people in need.
Addiction and Mental Health Mobile Crisis Response Services have proven successful in other regions of the province by helping to strengthen relationships with community partners, including police and other first responders, while also improving access to services outside of a clinical setting and subsequently reducing emergency room visits.
With the introduction of this new service, Miramichi joins the Moncton, Fredericton, Saint John and Upper River Valley regions in offering mobile crisis response.
