(SACKVILLE) June 10, 2021 - The Emergency Department at Horizon's Sackville Memorial Hospital will be temporarily changing its weekend evening and nighttime hours of service throughout the summer months.  

The Emergency Department will temporarily close each Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 4 p.m., and resume regular day time services at 8 a.m.

The hours of operation for the Emergency Department at Horizon's Sackville Memorial Hospital will be:

• Friday: Closed at 4 p.m.
• Saturday: 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.
• Sunday: 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.
• Monday: 8 a.m. (open)

Regular 24-hour service will be available throughout the week, beginning Monday at 8 a.m. through to Friday at 4 p.m.

This change is effective June 11, 2021 through to September.

During these temporary closures all patients and clients requiring medical care will need to seek treatment at another hospital, and all ambulances will be diverted. People are encouraged to call Tele-Care 811 if they have any questions about the type of medical attention they need. As always, if you have a medical emergency, please call 911.

We apologize for any inconvenience this temporary change in hours of service may cause. This temporary change in service was necessary for Horizon to continue offering safe and quality care to our patients and clients.

This temporary change in service hours is due to a nursing shortage. The emergency department at Horizon's Sackville Memorial Hospital has been faced with physician and nursing shortages in the past which has led to frequent coverage issues. Horizon would like to thank the dedicated nursing and physician staff at SMH for their service.
