Status Report: COVID-19 Outbreaks and Hospital Operations
(HORIZON) Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2021 - Horizon remains in the Red alert phase of our pandemic response with COVID-related hospitalizations and a high number of staff being off-work due to COVID-19.
As a result, Horizon is continuing to postpone elective surgeries and non-urgent outpatient appointments so that staff from these areas can be temporarily reassigned to critical areas such as our Emergency Departments, ICUs, COVID inpatient units, as well as our assessment centres and vaccination clinics.
While these measures are far from ideal, they are necessary to ensure we can continue to provide safe and quality care to those who need it most.
Our hospitals are caring for higher volumes of COVID-positive inpatients than at any other point in the pandemic.
This requires extra resources and planning to ensure appropriate physical space for care and treatment of these patients, while mitigating the risk of spread to other areas of the hospital.
Urgent services, including oncology and chemotherapy treatment, are continuing during the Red phase.
Those who are uncertain about the status of their appointment should call ahead to the corresponding department.
We appreciate the patience and understanding of the public and patients while we continue to work through this challenging situation.

Request for Volunteer Support
Horizon is working with our health care partners to manage these needs and will continue to work with the Government of New Brunswick to onboard members of the public who have offered assistance as the need arises.
Horizon is thankful for the support we have received, and we are doing our best to respond to everyone in a timely fashion. There has been a significant amount of interest for which we are very thankful and we are processing based on immediate need.
We will collaborate with government and our partners and reach out in the future, as the needs are identified for specific areas.
