Drug Drop-Off Program offered to Saint John area residents

(Saint John) May 6, 2015 - Saturday, May 9, is National Prescription Drug Drop-off Day, offering area residents a safe, simple and anonymous means of discarding their unwanted and unused medications.

The Drug Drop-off will be held on Saturday, May 9 from 10 am until 12 pm at the following locations (look for the tents and banners in the parking lot):

Lancaster Mall, 621 Fairville Blvd

McAllister Place, 519 Westmorland Rd

The locations are equipped to handle prescription medications, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, liquid medications, sprays, ointments, lotions and pet medications. Participants are asked to remove pills from original containers and place in a ziplock bag. Ointments, liquid medications and lotions can be dropped off in their original container.

The proper disposal of medications helps decrease prescription drug abuse, prevents accidental poisoning and overdoses and helps to reduce the environmental issues caused by improper medication disposal.

To obtain additional information about this program, please call 506-674-4307. The program is free of charge.

The Drug Drop-off program is a partnership between St. Joseph's Community Health Centre, the Saint John City Police and the Department of Social Development.
